A writer by trade, I fell (some might say literally) into the college admissions profession when the opportunity for a communications professional presented itself at Purdue. I enjoy my work (and I’m not just saying that because my boss probably will read this), but I get a little stressed when the stacks of paper get too high. My family is a central part of my life, and with a daughter who has reached college-search age, I can empathize with those who also are navigating this process. I’m pretty sure my love of pizza had something to do with my career in higher education and equally as sure my occasionally mismatched shoes did not. I use parentheses way too much (but they’re just so convenient). I like to start sentences with prepositions. And when I find time for myself, I enjoy reading or listening to David Sedaris, Davy Barry, Carl Hiaasen, and NPR’s This American Life. It bothers me that so many sentences in this bio start with the word “I,” but I need to move on, so I’ll just learn to live with it.

Valtrex Dosage

Last week the popular U.S.News & World Report college rankings were released and Purdue jumped from 22nd to 18th among public, doctoral-granting universities – valtrex dosage. What is so impressive about the rankings this year is the number of “specialty lists” Purdue is on – and how so many of them are related to the undergraduate student experience, which has been a top priority for our president, France Córdova.

Here are the lists – specific categories in which Purdue is recognized by U.S.News & World Report – as well as what they mean:

  • First-Year Experience – programs that build seminars and other academic programs into the first-year curriculum that bring small groups of students together with faculty and staff
  • Internships – schools that require or encourage students to apply what they’re learning in the classroom through real world experiences
  • Learning Communities – programs in which students typically take two or more classes together and get to know each other and faculty
  • Study Abroad – programs that involve extensive academic work abroad as well as interaction with the local culture
  • Writing in the Disciplines – schools that make writing a priority at all levels of instruction
  • High School Counselors’ Picks – college academic rankings by high school counselors
  • Commitment to Undergrad Teaching – schools with an “unusual commitment to undergrad teaching”
  • A-Plus Schools for B Students – schools where “nonsuperstars” have a decent shot at being accepted and thriving
  • Up-and-Comers – schools that have made the most promising and innovative changes in areas of academics, faculty, student life, campus or facilities

The “Best Colleges” publication also ranks engineering and business programs and Purdue climbed on these lists as well:

  • 8th overall among engineering programs (with top-five rankings in biological/agricultural, industrial/manufacturing, aerospace/aeronautical/astronautical, and civil engineering specialties)
  • 19th overall among business programs (with top-five rankings in production/operations management and quantitative analysis/methods)

These rankings aren’t (and shouldn’t be) the reasons a student should choose Purdue, but they are gratifying for us – the students, faculty, and staff of Purdue. They’re a clear indication we’re doing something right – valtrex dosage.

Prevent Premature Ejaculation

Parent-teacher conferences were held at my daughter’s high school recently, and the topic of Purdue’s new math requirement for admission came up in my discussion with her math teacher – prevent premature ejaculation. Prevent premature ejaculation: the new requirement is for four years of high school math, beginning with the class of 2011.Her teacher prevent premature ejaculation, a very bright woman who cares about her students’ future success, was unaware of the new requirement.

We (the Purdue Office of Admissions) have been trying to notify students and high schools about the new math requirement for more than a year.If students and high school counselors are on our mailing list (paper or email), it’s likely they’ve received multiple notices – prevent premature ejaculation. But these are busy people who receive information from hundreds of colleges; it has to be a challenge for them to keep up with everything.

Some have told us they think the requirement is extreme for students who want to major in something that won’t require much college-level math; prevent premature ejaculation. However, these conversations typically focus on getting into Purdue rather than graduating from Purdue. Our math requirement is intended to affect the “graduating” part of that equation, and it’s a fact that students who take four years of high school math are more likely to graduate from college.

Some advice relative to our math requirement:

  • If you’re good at math, keep it up – prevent premature ejaculation.Take the most rigorous courses available to you at your school or at a community college if you’ve “maxed out” at your school. It will serve you well in college.
  • If math isn’t your strong suit, work with your counselor to choose a senior-year math course you can handle.Purdue does not require a particular sequence of math subjects as long as they all are what we consider to be “college prep.” View a list of acceptable college-prep math courses onlineprevent premature ejaculation. Prevent premature ejaculation: use this list to plan your schedule next year.
  • High-school-level math taken in middle school counts toward this requirement, as long as we can tell from your high school transcript that you took a high school math course in middle school. For example, if we see you took geometry as a freshman, algebra II as a sophomore, and precalculus as a junior, we assume you took algebra I in 8th grade and will count that toward your high school math requirements; prevent premature ejaculation. Prevent premature ejaculation: and if you’re this kind of student, keep taking math in your senior year regardless of whether you already have four years of high school math – it will help you in college!
  • If you’re a high school junior planning to apply to Purdue, and your schedule for the next school year does not include math, talk to your guidance counselor and update your schedule.

Gout Cure

Signs of spring are popping up all over campus – gout cure.Flip flops are out of hibernation (if they ever were stored away).Snowmen have been replaced by Frisbees and footballs. And though campus is relatively quiet right now, with students in various parts of the country and world for spring break, there are a lot of cool things going on at Purdue.

Just Happened

Although some students are sure to be enjoying spring break on tropical vacations, many others are spending the week studying abroad or participating in service or humanitarian programs. Here is a sampling:

When students return next week, activities on campus and beyond will resume in earnest.

  • The Purdue Solar Racing team will defend its title in the Shell Eco-marathon Americas, an international contest to design and build the most fuel-efficient vehicle.Last year’s team won the solar-car category achieving 4,913 miles per gallon, the most ever recorded at the event – gout cure.Learn more and watch a videogout cure.
  • Apparel Design and Technology students will host their annual spring fashion show, showcasing student creations to an enthusiastic audience – gout cure.
  • For a second year, the Humans vs.Zombies game will take over campus for a week. There are rules (e.g. gout cure, can’t tag a human who’s working or on his/her way to a job interview) and missions (e.g., rescue a captive scientist who is critical to human survival).Humans want to survive the week by not being tagged gout cure, “socked” (hit with a rolled up sock), or shot with a Nerf gun.Once a zombie, you’re on the prowl for humans; gout cure.By all accounts, this is tons of fun – gout cure.Watch the video.
  • The women’s vocal group, the Purduettes, will host its annual cancer benefit concert – gout cure. Gout cure: learn more by watching this video.
  • Campus will be buzzing (literally, thanks to the Entomology Department) during the annual Spring Fest weekend, a community event that showcases Purdue through a host of activities and entertainment that appeal to all.Learn more gout cure, see photos, and watch a video.
  • Drivers will start their engines to compete in Purdue’s annual Grand Prix go kart race, dubbed “The Greatest Spectacle in College Racing.” This year, a new companion event for electric go karts will be held the week before.

Clearly, it’s a great time to be a Boilermaker – gout cure.; gout cure

Buy Coral Calcium Supplements

A recent bad day got worse as I was heading home from work and realized I had a flat tire. It was cold, wet, and dark – perfect timing for a flat; buy coral calcium supplements. As I pulled into a bus stop near Armstrong Hall and stepped out of the car, a young woman asked if I needed help. Buy coral calcium supplements: embarrassingly enough, I did.I’m not overly experienced with anything mechanical.

Katie was my Good Samaritan. She’s a first-year engineering student from Indianapolis who told me her dad didn’t let her or her siblings grow up and leave home before they knew how to change a flat buy coral calcium supplements, change the oil, and change a battery.

It’s finals week and Katie was there to catch a bus to go back to her campus home for dinner. She was fresh from an 8-hour study session, but she stayed to help me as several buses came and went. She crawled under my car to check the spare, pulled out the jack and went to work; buy coral calcium supplements. And buy coral calcium supplements, although I offered to do the under-the-car dirty work, she waved me off saying my clothes were nice, whereas she was wearing sweats. Not only did Katie help me with my car, she cured my bad mood.

Thank you, Katie; I hope your finals went well and that you enjoy your winter break.Oh buy coral calcium supplements, thanks to Katie’s Dad too.You must be very proud.

Buy Rimonabant

For freshmen applying for summer or fall 2010 enrollment, we will begin releasing admission decisions after 5 p.m – buy rimonabant.Eastern Time on December 11.We expect to release decisions on this date for all students who completed their application by October 16. Buy rimonabant: however, we’re still processing transcripts and other required application material received by that date. So if you have applied (and sent all required material) and your online application status indicates we haven’t yet received something, that just means the material needs to be processed – which has to happen before it will appear as received on your online status report.

After December 11, we will continue releasing new decisions daily and we expect that applications will be evaluated and decisions will be released within eight weeks of the application completion date.

A couple of things to note:

  • Your completion date is the date we receive the final required item. Buy rimonabant: all material is date-stamped the day it arrives in our office and that is what we record as the received date when it is processed.During certain times of year (typically October-February), the volume of material we receive each day can delay processing up to three weeks.
  • If you haven’t completed your application, please know that November 15 is the deadline for some academic programs and scholarships; buy rimonabant.See our deadlines and dates web page for more information.
  • To meet a deadline buy rimonabant, all required material must be received or postmarked by that date.

Be sure to routinely check email at the email address you provided with your application. Buy rimonabant: purdue relies on email for important communication, and whether or not you use email very much now, it’s a good habit to start.Once you’re a college student, email will become essential; buy rimonabant.

Depression And Prozac

In the Office of Admissions depression and prozac, we speak to a lot of students and parents who “heard from a friend that …” Sometimes the information their friend shared is accurate. Oftentimes it’s not.

A recent example is related to the fact that students who apply to Purdue choose one major on their application, and admission to some majors is more competitive than others.A parent called our office recently to say a friend told her that if her daughter applies for an alternative major with a second application, that will allow us to consider her for both majors. NOT TRUE.

In fact, students who submit a second application for the same term actually create problems for themselves. There can be only one active application per student, per term. If a student submits a second application, our staff has to determine which application should be active – depression and prozac. This delays the processing of that application and ultimately could delay the student’s admission decision.

In the past depression and prozac, applicants were able to provide a first-choice major and an alternate choice on a single application. Depression and prozac: if students were not admissible to their first choice, we would consider them for their alternate.

This year, we removed the alternate choice from the application because we found that students weren’t giving much thought to their Plan B.And, if they were admitted to and enrolled in that alternate major, many immediately initiated plans to switch into what had been their first choice.Unfortunately, many discovered the hard way that if getting into their first-choice major was competitive at the admission stage, trying to switch into it after they were Purdue students was equally (if not more) competitive.

We decided that providing this alternate choice on the application was a disservice to students as well as to our faculty and staff. However, we have not abandoned the alternate-choice concept; depression and prozac. We simply built in processes that will require applicants to give their Plan B more forethought.

From this point forward depression and prozac, students who are denied admission to their major of choice only because the pool of applicants is too competitive will be encouraged to contact the Office of Admissions to discuss other options for admission. Depression and prozac: this will allow students to make informed decisions about alternative choices and understand that switching majors to get into their original first choice is never a guarantee and is likely to be very difficult.

Good students who apply to and are denied admission to competitive majors at Purdue will continue to have options on our campus.

And to get back to the “I heard from a friend” part of this story – when in doubt, ask.As the parent who was told her daughter should apply twice did, you’ll find that Office of Admissions staff are readily available to help answer any questions you may have about applying to Purdue; depression and prozac.

Generic Prilosec

Purdue President France Córdova recently announced that the University will raise its high school math requirement for admission from six to eight semesters. This new requirement will begin with students who will graduate in 2011 generic prilosec, those who will be juniors this fall.

What surprises me about the discussion on this topic since then is the focus on whether the new requirement will make it tougher to be admitted to Purdue. What seems to be a secondary topic is that Purdue is giving students incentive to be better prepared to graduate from college; generic prilosec. And what I don’t understand is how being admitted to Purdue has become more important than graduating from college.

My oldest daughter will graduate from high school in 2011 and will be in the first class for which this new requirement applies – generic prilosec. Generic prilosec: of course it concerns me whether she will be admissible to her top-choice college, whether it’s Purdue or another university. Generic prilosec: but what concerns me more is whether her work in high school is going to prepare her to succeed academically beyond high school.

The facts speak for themselves – college coursework is more difficult than high school coursework, and students who pursue a more rigorous high school curriculum are more likely to graduate from college.Purdue wants to admit students who are prepared to succeed and therefore sets admission standards that ensure a well-prepared student population; generic prilosec. So my and my daughter’s goal (her college success) is the same as Purdue’s – generic prilosec.I’m OK with that.

Purdue is simply expecting the same thing an athletic coach would expect – that players are ready when it’s game time – generic prilosec.Players who work harder are going to get more playing time and they’re more likely to win – generic prilosec. Generic prilosec: that’s OK in sports and it’s OK in academics.

If my daughter decides that graduating from Purdue is what she wants, choosing the right high school courses and working hard are going to help her achieve that goal.If she’s not admitted to Purdue’s West Lafayette campus as a first-year freshman generic prilosec, she’ll still have options to get a Purdue degree, whether it’s at a regional campus or by transferring to West Lafayette after a year or two at another institution.

Attending Purdue is not something my daughter is entitled to; it’s something she has to earn. And a college degree isn’t going to be handed to her; she’ll have to earn it.That’s why a college degree is a valuable thing to have – and what’s great for Indiana residents is that there are many generic prilosec, many affordable college options within the state.

At our home, “because I said so,” isn’t a well-received explanation. With Purdue’s new math requirement, I now have a concrete argument if my daughter tries to wiggle out of math her senior year.I’m OK with that.

Treatment Of Heart Attacks

To apply to Purdue for 2010 enrollment – you need to start planning now. Purdue requires that ACT and SAT test scores be sent electronically from the testing agencies. At no additional cost to you, when you register to take one of these tests (and up to a week after you register), you have the opportunity to designate multiple colleges to receive your scores – treatment of heart attacks. If you don’t use this free score reporting option at that time, you have to pay the agencies to send the scores (less than $10).

There is no downside to sending your scores to Purdue electronically, and there are multiple advantages:

  • For admission and scholarship decisions, Purdue uses your best available scores; treatment of heart attacks. If you retake a test and send new, higher scores to Purdue, we will disregard any lower scores. So there is no reason to wait to see your scores before you send them to us.
  • When we receive scores from the testing agencies, they are automatically loaded into our data system, which ensures that your scores are entered accurately.
  • Electronic transmission of test scores is efficient, which minimizes the data processing necessary to get your application to the Admissions Committee – which can translate into less of a wait for you to receive a decision.

If you are a high school junior, you should be planning to take one of these college entrance exams between now and June; treatment of heart attacks. Not only will this guarantee you will be able to complete a Purdue application early in your senior year treatment of heart attacks, it will allow time for a retake early in the fall if you want to try to achieve better scores.

Purdue accepts scores from either the SAT or ACT.If you haven’t already treatment of heart attacks, plan now to take one of these tests so that you are prepared to apply to Purdue when our 2010 application is available August 1.
